Former Playboy bunny Holly Madison lobbed some heavy accusations against her former boss, Hugh Hefner, in her tell-all memoir, Down the Rabbit Hole. So what does the Hef have to say about her claims? Like a true gentleman Hefner countered with a gentlemanly denial and insult, naturally.

I'm kidding about the gentleman part -- but not the denial and insult. In a statement to People magazine Hefner implies that not only is Madison lying, she's lying to stay relevant.

"Over the course of my life I've had more than my fair share of romantic relationships with wonderful women," he begins. EYEROLL. Stealing lines from the 1970s TV show Love Boat, are we Hef?

Many moved on to live happy, healthy and productive lives and I'm pleased to say remain dear friends today. Sadly, there are a few who have chosen to rewrite history in an attempt to stay in the spotlight.

Hmm. I don't know about you, but I find myself believing Madison's side of the story.

More from The Stir: Holly Madison Reveals the Depressing Truth About Living in the Playboy Mansion

It would be incredibly naive to think life in the Playboy Mansion was a fairy tale (ahem, readers of Playboy who can't believe how ungrateful Madison is). I mean, here's Hefner, an aging publisher trying to keep himself relevant by surrounding himself with beautiful women who reflect the tastes of his magazine -- for decades. He has to create the aura of desirability, and yeah, he's going to abuse his power to make that happen.

But it's also no surprise to see Hefner deny Madison's depiction. And that little insult he adds really says a lot about what kind of man he is. He could have refused any comment at all. He could have said he was disappointed in Madison but will always think fondly of her. But no, he uses a classic (and OLD) pickup artist technique called "negging" where you get a woman's attention by pointing out her flaws. He's still trying to manipulate Madison. Super creepy.

Way to prove Madison right, Hef!

What do you think of Hugh Hefner's denial of Holly Madison's claims?
