What's the secret to a long life? According to 109-year-old Jessie Gallan, it's eating porridge every day for breakfast and staying away from men. "They're just more trouble than they're worth," she says. Gallan has been single for her entire life. And if you've ever had your heart broken -- or even had a serious argument with your mate -- you have to laugh. But seriously? A long life without love isn't worth it to me!

I think the right man is very much worth the trouble! I mean, what are we doing here in this life, anyway? Isn't it about connecting with people and forging meaningful relationships, whether romantic or family or friends?

Sure, life with a man can have its ups and downs, but it's not always SO stressful that it takes years off your life. And I say this as a divorced woman. Was my previous husband a lot of trouble? Oh hell yes. But that adventure of a marriage was worth it.

If you're in a terrible, abusive relationship, that's going to shave years off your life. (And by the way, a long-term relationship with a lesbian isn't guaranteed to be stress-free, either!) But if you're in a healthy relationship, if you've found someone to be happy with, that could actually add years to your life. And if you're rocking a hot bedroom? Even better!

Anyway, quality of life matters to me more than the length of that life. I'm not sure I even want to be alive for 109 years. Frankly, it sounds exhausting. What matters more to me is how much I loved and was loved.

Oh, I'm probably taking Gallan's joke too seriously. Maybe she got her heart broken early on and never got over it. Or maybe she's just always been happier with friendships only. Who knows? I'm just saying -- that life is not for me!

Don't even get me started on that daily porridge breakfast.

Do you agree with this 109-year-old woman, or are men really "worth the trouble"?
