Will Smith may very well have been attracted to his Focus costar Margot Robbie. And you know what? That's just fine with Jada Pinkett Smith. In fact, it's great. Pinkett Smith revealed her surprising philosophy on love and marriage to Howard Stern yesterday.
Yes, it's hard to live your marriage in the hot, bright celeb spotlight. Cheating rumors were swirling around Will Smith when a images from a flirtatious photo booth session with Margot Robbie were leaked. What wife wouldn't feel insecure in that situation? But Pinkett Smith isn't just any wife.
"Just because a man is attracted to another woman does not mean that he does not love you," Pinkett Smith told Stern. "And it doesn't mean that he's going to act on it." She's right, but that's one of the hardest concepts to wrap our heads around. We're all humans with eyes. We notice other people. It's inevitable -- especially if you're in Hollywood. Holy heck, Will and Jada are surrounded by gorgeous people, all the time. You would HAVE to be okay with that at some level.
But here's the where Pinkett Smith gets deep: "If your man isn't going to see another woman's beauty, how the heck is he going to see yours?"
What a mature perspective -- and a lot of trust. If you accept that your husband is a sexual being who appreciates beauty you actually open yourself up more to his appreciation of your own beauty. That's a pretty Zen way to take in the madness that is being half of a celeb couple. I'm sure she feels attracted to other men, too, and that enhances her attraction to her husband, in a way.
In the end, Pinkett Smith says, "I'm not his watcher. He's a grown man." She says there's so much attention focused on them that whatever shenanigans he gets up to will be exposed eventually anyhow.
Here's what I trust: The man that Will is ... is a man of integrity. He's got all the freedom in the world. As long as Will can look himself the mirror and be okay? I'm good.
Does that mean they have an open relationship -- is that what she's hinting at? Pinkett Smith won't go into specifics, and good for her. But her perspective on marriage is something I think we could all learn from.
