Is that chin-length bob going to look good on you? What about that pixie? How can you find out -- without chopping it all off or updating your Photoshop skills? We've got the solution, and it's super easy. All you need is a pencil and a ruler, and no, this doesn't mean you're going to draw a self portrait.
We found this cool trick to find out if short hair will suit you on Cosmo. It's all about your angle! Giles Robinson, senior stylist at John Frieda Salons UK, tells them, "John studied faces and saw that the angle of the jaw bone determined whether or not someone would look best with short hair or long hair." So all you have to do is measure that angle, no protractor necessary.

1. Hold a pencil horizontally under your chin.
2. Hold a ruler vertically at the bottom of your ear.
3. See where the pencil intersects with the ruler and note that measurement.
4. If you get 2.25 inches or less, you'll look fab with short hair. If it's over 2.25 inches, stick with longer hair.
Give it a try and see what you find out!
I suppose this means if you have a longer, pointed chin short hair is not for you. Maybe you'll find out your chin measures too "long" and you'll say, "screw it, I've been pining for short hair for ages and I'm chopping it all off anyway!" If so, good for you. Who needs a ruler and a pencil to make your decisions for you, anyway?
Or maybe you're really, truly on the fence about getting a shorter look and just want to make the most informed choice. In that case, here's your answer. Good luck to you.
Now that it's getting warmer, have you been contemplating a shorter cut?
