How about a strong dose of celeb honesty today? Iggy Azalea casually mentioned she got breast implants recently. Just like that! And ... well, we have mixed feelings about it.
A Vogue reporter asked Azalea what she would change about her body if she could (one of the most depressing/unimaginative questions you could ever ask a woman, and one men rarely have to answer). Azalea "popped a french fry into her mouth" and replied, “I did change something: Four months ago, I got bigger boobs! I’d thought about it my entire life.”
See, when Azalea first arrived in the U.S. she tried to get into modeling, but she was told her size 0/2 on top, size 6 on bottom body wouldn't cut it. The 5-foot-10 performer would have to lose weight and get a nose job. As a result, Azalea says, "I was looking in the mirror a little differently."
Plus, she told Vogue, she was tired of sewing padding into her stage costumes and wearing under-wire bras.
So boom: Boob job for Iggy.

As a pear-shaped lady I get it. With Azalea's famously full, pert derriere I'm sure she felt especially keen to fill up her top for more proportionate balance. A lot of us women tend to be larger on the bottom than on the top. That's just how we're made, naturally.
But still ... I can't help wondering what would have happened if she'd resisted that pressure to measure up to an ideal. For all the credit Azalea gets for being a groundbreaking artist, what if she'd taken that a step further and let her unique curves shine, just the way they are?
I have this worry that celebs are looking more and more alike. Everyone with the same noses, same hairstyles, and definitely body types. Obviously they don't all look exactly alike. But it's a more cookie-cutter world than the real one we live in. And that's a pity. I'd rather see a wider (ahem) range of what beautiful could look like.
For her part, Azalea did hesitate going public about her breast implants because she didn't want her younger, female fans to feel negatively about their own bodies. "But then, I decided I wasn't into secret keeping." And that's great! I'm glad she's not -- and it would be fantastic if more celebs would be more candid about the lengths they go through to look as "perfect" as they do.
What a weird world we're all growing up in, though. A world where, if you can, you sculpt yourself into some prescribed ideal. And if you can't, you have the privilege and opportunity to learn some self acceptance.
