I was just watching him in the movie Late Quartet a few weeks ago; I am tremendously saddened that such a dazzling performer is gone. Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead at home in Greenwich Village this afternoon. A friend found him in his apartment at 11:30 a.m. Police believe he may have died of a drug overdose and are investigating right now. The 46-year-old was the father of three children.
Hoffman checked himself into rehab for heroin addiction last year and had struggled with substance abuse over the years. His addiction is surprising to many as he was not a regular feature in tabloids. He dealt with his demons quietly.
Hoffman won an Academy Award and Golden Globe for the title role in Capote -- among many other awards and nominations. His death is a huge loss to film and theater, but nothing compared to the loss suffered by his wife and children.
