Charlie Sheen’s Ex-Colleagues Say He’s Alive Because He Was Fired

We probably haven't heard the last of infamous actor Charlie Sheen, he of the tiger's blood and Adonis DNA and the WINNING. But what about the innocent bystanders of the Charlie Express train wreck? Jon Cryer and Chuck Lorre had been quieter than Charlie, which is not hard to do. But recently the Sheen survivors talked about last winter's meltdown, and they've both suggested something surprising: Firing Charlie Sheen may have saved his life.

It's been several months since the winter mayhem, so you may want to refresh your memory and read some of the statements Charlie made that got Two and a Half Men cancelled and his dysfunctional ass fired. Charlie was especially harsh toward executive producer Chuck Lorre, calling him a "stupid, stupid little man" and making anti-Semitic remarks -- the kind of antics that would get anyone fired from their job. Chuck was probably outraged and maybe even a little hurt, but it's amazing to hear a small flicker of compassion for Charlie.

Chuck told TV Guide, "You can’t do that much cocaine and work. I didn’t want to be writing a sitcom while my friend died. Or worse, hurt someone else. We couldn’t be complacent. There was a tragedy unfolding right in front of us. There was violence and blackouts. On a certain level, if you’re looking the other way, you’re responsible."

And Jon Cryer says in an interview with Esquire, "I believe when they decided to bring in another actor, it saved Charlie’s life." He adds, "It must’ve been a huge wake-up call for him. If it helps his life in any way, thank God, because I always liked the guy and he never, ever, did me wrong." Charlie himself admitted on the Tonight Show that he should have been fired, so Jon may be right about that wake-up call.

Charlie is still not exactly winning. His latest stunt was "accidentally" Tweeting Justin Bieber his phone number. Meanwhile, between the roast, the tour, and his other appearances, it seems like there are still people in the entertainment biz willing to enable him. But I agree with Jon and Chuck -- I still think getting fired was good for Charlie. Wacky Tweeting aside, he's slowed down lately and has shown some remorse. Maybe he's getting some help -- on the DL, of course. And maybe someday he'll even thank Chuck for firing him.

Do you think getting fired saved Charlie Sheen's life?
