The world breathed a sigh of relief when Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison announced that they turned down an invitation to appear on the television show Relationship Rehab. They say it wasn't a perfect fit for them -- and I have to agree. I'm scratching my head over why they got the invitation in the first place. Doug and Courtney -- need relationship rehab? As far as I can tell, their relationship is doing perfectly fine, thank you very much!
Oh I know -- their relationship is utterly revolting to most of us. The winter/summer age difference, the oversexed, seemingly plastic Courtney, the sleazy Doug. Yuckfest! But just because a relationship is TOTALLY GROSS to the outside world doesn't mean it's dysfunctional. The two love birds (SHUDDER) seem perfectly happy together, actually.
Just because no one understands what makes your marriage work doesn't mean it doesn't work. They're obviously blissed-out with each other. I have no idea why -- well, I guess Doug is happy because he's married to this hot teenager (or 20-something, whatever), which is kind of every middle-aged man's fantasy. And she's happy because he gives her access to the entertainment world. And who knows? Maybe they have a lot in common. Maybe they have the same sense of humor. Maybe they're totally bonding over those dogs. You just never know.

Plus, their relationship is brand-new! They're still in the (blech) honeymoon phase. And if you compare how they act with each other with how Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries acted with each other right after they got married, it's like night and day. Doug and Courtney are all smiles and they can't keep their hands off each other (EW!). Just because their PDA is icky-city doesn't mean it's not real.

So obviously they don't need relationship rehab. Right now. Check back with Courtney and Doug in another year or so -- maybe then we'll have a reality TV-worthy train wreck of a relationship. Hey, it doesn't take long for things to go downhill! But for now -- let the lovebirds sing their happy song on some other show.
