Clik here to view.Well, now we know what speaks most to voters: MONEY. If Romney had lost in Michigan -- his home state where Dad was governor -- it very well could have doomed his campaign. I mean, talk about a humiliating defeat. As it is, the Michigan primary results show he just barely pulled ahead by 3 points. W00t, Mittens! I don't know that we can call that a win, exactly -- let's call it a NOTFAIL.
How much did that NOTFAIL in Michigan cost Romney and his super PAC? $4.3 million. Oof, that's pricey! So you know what's really winning the primaries? Not ideas, not commitment to political ideals, not crazy hair-on-fire -- money. Money is winning.
Romney still has to split the Michigan delegates with Santorum, 15 to 15. Which means Romney spent $285,000 per delegate. Santorum spent half as much per delegate. So basically the candidate who can afford to spend like money grows on trees is going to survive.
And the money story also shows us exactly how weak Romney is otherwise. That he had to outspend Santorum by this much just to keep up? In a race that should have easily been his? Man, he's holding on by a thread.
Clearly Romney will have to split open a vein and pour even more money into Georgia, Tennessee, and Oklahoma -- states where his chances are even worse. Evangelicals think he's just plain weird, not to mention not conservative enough. If he blizzards the state with non-stop ads, will it work? Maybe -- if those ads promise a new car for every vote.
But hey, Daddy's loaded, okay? To the tune of $36 million for the Romney-supporting super PAC. So get ready, everyone, Romney's super PAC is about to buy the Republican presidential candidacy. No need to even show up. Yo, money be in the house!
Do you think Romney's success is due mostly to his campaign's wealth?
