Following the news that a 21-year-old man had drowned in her pool, actress Demi Moore issued a heartfelt statement on the tragedy. Edenilson Steven Valle's body was found early Sunday morning while Moore was away from her Beverly Hills home.
Speaking through her publicist, Moore said she was in "absolute shock" over the accident. (She was photographed in Vancouver, Canada, over the weekend.) "I was out of the country traveling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news," she said. Meanwhile her assistant held a party in her absence, and it was during this event that this "unthinkable tragedy" occurred.
"My heart goes out to this young man's family and friends," Moore said.
Can you imagine how awful? To know someone died at your home, in a place where you and your family have built many happy memories together, in a place of comfort and refuge. Moore must feel terrible that this accident happened and there was nothing she could do to stop it.

According to some reports, Valle may have been a household staff member. His family says he could not swim and he may have fallen into the pool. He had been in the water 10 to 15 minutes when his body was discovered floating in the deep end.
It's terribly sad that someone so young died in a freak accident but we're glad Moore is responding with compassion. As a parent I'm sure she feels especially for Valle's family -- she has daughters close to his age, and she would be utterly undone if something similar happened to one of them.
