When actress Zoe Saldana secretly married Italian artist Marco Perego in the summer of 2013 the couple did something way more non-traditional than elope. Saldana's husband too her last name in place of his own. It's Mr. Marco Saldana now, everyone. Go on, ask him if he cares what people think of that!
Saldana told InStyle magazine that she tried to talk her husband out of it. "I told him, ‘If you use my name, you’re going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world'." I'm sure she was touched by his choice, but worried that he would later regret it.
“But Marco looks up at me and says [she puts on a cute Italian accent], ‘Ah, Zoe, I don’t give a sheet.’”
Ah Zoe, now that's a real man!

A lot of women choose to take their husband's name not just out of tradition but because having one last name symbolizes that you are now a family together. It's a lovely way to do that. But why does it always have to be the husband's name that's taken? In these modern times it's kind of silly to always default to his name without any further talk or discussion.
Zoe Saldana has built a career around her name. Then again, so has Marco. So it's saying a lot that he's willing to sacrifice that for his wife. Not very many men would do the same. You'd have to be pah-lenty confident in your masculinity to take your wife's name.
I think it's incredibly romantic of him. Geez, and he's so ridiculously sexy, too. Does he have to be so perfect? Anyway, with twin boys there's no question who the Saldanas are. I'm sure Marco feels closer to his wife and kids by sharing their name.
