When George Clooney proposed to Amal Alamuddin she made him wait for his answer. On bended knee. She made him wait and wait and wait for her answer. Why? Because she's Amal and she can. And also because she did not see that proposal coming.
Clooney shared his engagement story with Charlie Rose (like two giddy girlfriends over Cosmos). He says he put on some Auntie Rosemary Clooney songs, got down on one knee, and introduced a topic he'd never brought up before.
"When I asked her, we had never talked about it," Clooney confessed to Rose. "So it was all — there wasn’t like a, ‘Maybe we should get married.’ Literally, I dropped it on her." And remember, these two had only been dating for about nine months when he popped the question. He's very sure of himself, isn't he?

Clooney says Amal just stood there going "Oh my God" and "wow" over and over again.
And you know, I just said — I’m 53 at the time — ‘I’ve been on my knee now for 28 minutes, so I gotta get an answer out of this ’cause I’m gonna throw a hip out. I might not be able to stand back up.
Hah! I love it -- giving George a moment of doubt. Good for Amal! And she was right to let him wait while she thought about it. If they'd never discussed it, she very well may have assumed they would date into perpetuity -- and been okay with that.
But then he throws her for a loop. This is a man who said he'd never marry. What the hell was he doing, proposing? That's not what she'd signed up for.
I don't know what made her say yes. She must love the guy! But the fact that she made Clooney wait for half an hour on his knees proves she is the perfect woman for him.
