sad lady getting divorcedWhat factors increase your odds of divorce? Some are predictable: Rolling your eyes at your spouse, having a long commute, and spending too much time on social media. But there are some weird factors you'd never suspect would have anything to do with the breakdown of a marriage.

Other factors that increase your odds are living in a red state, not having a college degree, and having a daughter. What the heck -- what does having a daughter have to do with it? Mysterious!

While we're talking divorce factoids, does it ever feel like news of divorce comes out of the blue? I suppose it depends on how well you know the person who is getting divorced, but it's rarely a spontaneous decision. These and more fascinating facts about divorce have been compiled into a handy infographic by law firm McKinely Irvin. And we're sharing it because some of this info could help you prevent a divorce -- or ate least prepare you for what to expect if you do have one.

For example, if you want to decrease your odds of divorce, maybe rethink your commute, try connecting with your spouse whenever you feel the urge to look at Facebook (again), get a grip on your displays of contempt, and divide the household chores more fairly.
