I can only imagine how terrifying this ordeal would be. A 22-year-old live-in nanny says her employer held her captive and tortured her for three days. According to her report, Sherman Gamble shoved a rolled-up newspaper down her throat and shouted at her, "I am going to kill you. You don’t know who I am. I am the black Hitler." She also claims he beat her, pulled out her hair, and choked her until she passed out. The woman had been hired to watch the man's 9-year-old grandson, who was home at the time.
The victim finally escaped when she convinced Gamble to let her go to the bank. She went instead to the nearest precinct. Sources say she was covered in bruises. "She was beat up really badly," a policeman told the New York Post. The woman was treated at a hospital.
Gamble does have a bit of a violent history. He was arrested for assaulting one of his children a decade ago. But a former wife is still surprised to hear the charges against him. "It’s hard for you to believe that he would torture someone,” says Audrey Bailey. “I’ve known him for most of my life and he’s not that type of person. That’s sounds a little funny to me. I am very shocked. That’s not the person I know."
People can change -- for the worse. And people have a way of surprising us. Maybe someone's medication was a factor, or drug abuse. And of course, while Gamble has been charged, he hasn't been convicted. The nanny's story could be false. Who knows? It's a strange story all around. Black Hitler -- was he referring to Kanye West's "Black Skinhead" song? But if the nanny's story is true, what a nightmare. This is certainly not what you sign up for when you're hired to babysit children.
