Have you had enough of the drama in the TV show, How I Met Your Mother? Apparently not, America, because a spinoff is in the works. How I Met Your Dad will star Greta Gerwig-- an indie film favorite. She'll play Sally, "a Peter Pan who never has grown up and has no idea where she's going in life." So they're breaking new ground with this role! Bwa ha ha ha ha. No, but seriously, here's the really cool part: Gerwig will also be a producer and a writer on the show. And that's why I might actually give this show a chance.
So just as How I Met Your Mother fades into the sunset with its last episode airing at the end of March, How I Met Your Dad will be in the works, reinventing the formula from a woman's perspective. I would roll my eyes and call it pandering, except I think Gerwig brings some credibility to the project.

In the show, Sally is a newlywed who is just realizing she has nothing in common with her new husband. She'll end up leaving him, of course, and then connecting with a supportive group of friends. Okay, so we've seen 20-somethings clowning around in bars before. And we've seen our share of adorkable young women. But Gerwig is a new/different kind of adorkable with more depth ... oh never mind. I don't know if I can make a convincing case for anyone who isn't already a Gerwig fan. But trust me, it's a promising move. She could be the new Neil Patrick Harris! Did I mention she dances?
