Do you ever feel like someone is looking out for you and your children? This mom sure does. A car nearly killed a slumbering baby when it came crashing into a house yesterday morning. A woman lost control of her speeding Toyota Scion sedan and drove right into 5-month-old Conhur Maston's room. Conhur's crib was pushed up against the wall, but he was unhurt. Meanwhile, the commotion woke his mother, Laurie, who clambered over the debris to find her baby alive. Imagine her relief!
I woke up to the crash and a car horn and go to grab him, and there's stuff between me and the crib which shouldn't have been there - very scary,' Maston said. 'But we're both OK, so we're OK with that - that we have somebody looking out for us.
It just shows that even when you take every precaution to keep your baby safe, you're never in complete control all of the time. There are still people and things in this world that could take your baby away from in the blink of an eye. Most of us don't spend much time thinking about that. But when we do, it's almost paralyzing.
Even if you don't believe in God, you almost can't help hoping someone is looking out for you, filling in that gap between what you know you can prevent and what could still happen anyway. There are other babies who aren't as lucky as Conhur was. We see terrible things happen to children all the time -- through no fault of the parents. Who knows why one child is spared and another is not.
All we can do is be grateful when luck lands in our favor. Is anyone out there, looking out for us? Who knows. But slow down out there, drivers. Let's at least look out for each other.
