When I first heard that Carrie Underwood would be playing Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music Live! I did the respectful thing: Anticipated disaster and silently averted my eyes. I pretty much knew what would happen. Underwood would sing the heck out of the songs but bomb as an actress. Right? We all knew this. And that's exactly what happened, as I surmised from my Facebook feed. But that didn't stop the haters from mocking the show and Carrie Underwood anyway. Well, the sing/non-actress has a message for y'all.Carrie Underwood is praying for you, haterz.

First of all, this just makes Carrie look defensive about her performance. There was a lot of silliness and joking, but there was also some serious, thoughtful criticism about her performance that she would probably do well to notice. Doesn't sound like she will, though. With this tweet she's basically saying, "I HEARD YOU AND IT MADE ME FEEL BAD, YOU JERKS!" Carrie's a good Christian woman, though, so she's not going to say that. She's going to blanket that sentiment in a thick coating of righteousness. YOU obviously need JESUS, and by the way: #BLESSYOU.

I can't really see Carrie on her knees, hands reverently pressed together, saying, "And please bless those Godless souls who elicited mirth amongst their social circles by mocking my performance on The Sound of Music Live! for they know not what a good performance looks like, obviously, dear Lord." Unless she followed that up with, "I know thine judgment awaits them in the Last Days and they shall burn in Hellfire and Damnation for their mocking, amirite? Pinky shake, Jesus!"
I can see how Carrie might feel stung by the public response. And she's probably trying to stand above it all. But giving us the holier-than-thou act isn't very gracious at all.
What would Jesus do? Probably say nothing about the haters at all. Jesus would thank everyone for the wonderful opportunity and say that he learned a lot and had a great time with the talented cast and crew. Then again, Jesus would not play Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music Live! because that would be bad casting. But you know what I mean.
