And you thought C-SPAN was too boring to watch! Yesterday, during his hours-long anti-Obamacare semi-filibuster, Senator Ted Cruz did a Darth Vader impersonation. As you do. He compared Tea Party politicians, like him and Utah Senator Mike Lee, who are trying to defund the health care law, to the Rebel Alliance in the movie Star Wars -- and the "Washington establishment" (what does that even MEAN anymore?) to the Empire. "Mike Lee," he rasped, "I am your father!"
Okay ... you got our attention, Ted.

So Ted's plan is to force a government shutdown unless Obamacare is unfunded. Not a popular tactic. Really, Ted? Really.

Sure, your grandstanding makes for a great soundbite on the morning news shows. And I'm pleased to have an excuse to post a bunch of Star Wars gifs. But threatening a government shutdown is just a ... well, you know.

Americans will turn on conservatives (again) if that happens. They'll blame you. We may have some misgivings about Obamacare, but we're not eager for crazy-ass dramatics, either. We'd rather have some thoughtful problem solving.

Like it or not, Obamacare passed. There were votes. It happened. And you know what? You can deny its legitimacy. But there is no Millennium Falcon waiting to swoop in and pick you up if you lose your grip.
