You guys. As I write this, Kate Middleton's hairdresser is at the hospital, and you know what that means: The Royal Family will be making their first public appearance so very soon! The Palace sent a press release saying that Kate, Will, and Baby could leave the hospital as early as 1 p.m. East Coast time. But the hairdresser was spotted by veteran royals photographer Arthur Edwards some six hours ago. And naturally Kate cannot possibly make a public appearance unless her hair is just perfect.
Here's what millions of us moms are thinking: Wow, I wish I could have had a hairdresser do my 'do before I left the hospital. Come on, who is with me on this one?
Of course Kate wants to look her best when she makes her big appearance. She's going to have thousands of flashbulbs going off in her face. Her photos will be plastered all over the world. We'll be looking at those photos for decades. Someday, when the Royal Baby himself is a father, we'll drag those photos out and say, "Remember when?"
But you don't have to be a Duchess to want to look beautiful on your first day back out into the world beyond the hospital. Oh sure, there are some women who are too "deep" and "real" to think of such frivolous things as their hair right after bringing forth life into the world like a goddess. But I think you can be deep and real and still want to be gorgeous for your own photos.
As it is, I don't think I have any photos of myself when I left the hospital -- just dozens of my newborn son. But I do have a few of those classic photos where I'm holding my new little son in my hospital bed. I can't remember exactly, but I think I managed to brush my hair and maybe even swipe on a bit of lip gloss. It's a good enough picture that I don't cringe when I see it -- I just see how besotted I am with my newborn. And that's all you really need, I think -- just to look good enough not to be distracted by the appearance of bad hair. That said, if there'd been a roving hairdresser offering her services to new moms on site at the hospital, you bet I would have hired her on the spot.
Did you care about your appearance much when you left the hospital after giving birth?
