Looks like we'll be seeing a bio pic about the fabulously eccentric music artist Elton John sometime soon. Can you imagine the wild film that will be? Lee Hall, the screenwriter who penned the movie Billy Elliot has been working on the script. And wait until you hear who Elton wants to play him: He told the Los Angeles Times, "No. 1 on my wish list is Justin Timberlake, because he played me before in a David LaChapelle video of "Rocket Man" and was superb."
Hello -- Justin Timberlake would be a BRILLIANT choice for playing Elton John! Not just because he's already played Elton, and not just because he oozes charm from his ever pore. I don't know if I'd be all that excited about an Elton John bio pic alone, but if Timberlake is in it, I am lining up.
Let's remember, Justin Timberlake is also a singer with experience in the pop-star stratosphere. He could empathize with the role. And he's fearless. What other male actor in Hollywood is confident enough to play one of the flamingest performers ever? (Well, besides Hugh Jackman, of course or maybe Elton pal Neil Patrick Harrris.) After all the nutty sketches I've seen Justin do on Saturday Night Live I think he has the cojones to play Elton John in his heyday.
Elton says it's not going to be a typical bio pic, either. He says, "It's going to be a surreal look at my life, and not just a factual look at my life, more in the manner of 'Moulin Rouge!'" Well, of course. Elton John has led that kind of life -- especially in the years before he went into rehab in 1990. I think JT is just crazy enough to do that concept justice.
So is this an official offer? Does this mean Justin has been offered the role? We'll have to wait and see. Elton says he'll be making an announcement "very, very soon." Maybe he's just waiting to get confirmation from Justin? Fingers crossed!
