Adam Lambert is stirring up controversey once again. This time he's been arrested -- with his Finnish boyfriend, Big Brother star Sauli Koskinen. The two got into an argument at a bar in Finland and then took it outside, where it turned into an all-out fight.
Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt. And apparently after a time-out in jail Adam and Sauli are still a happy couple. Sauli told the press, "Publicity is not easy, but also celebrities are just human. Love is not easy either, but it lasts forever!" Okey dokey, then. So I'm wondering, if a hetero couple came out with a lovey-dovey statement like that after a physical fight, would we feel differently?
Adam also seems to be taking the fight lightly. He tweeted “Jetlag+Vodka=blackout. Us÷blackout=irrational confusion. jail+guilt+press=lesson learned. Sauli+Adam+hangover burgers= laughing bout it. :)" Well, I'm glad someone learned a lesson -- whatever lesson that was. Don't get in a bar fight in Finland? Don't mix jetlag with vodka? Hamburgers heal all wounds?
We've seen a few celebrity domestic abuse scandals, and usually the public sentiment is, "Girl, you need to find yourself another man!" And yeah, it's because most of the time it's the man abusing the woman. But what about when it's two guys -- and they're more or less matched, physically? (Okay, Adam's a lot taller.) Is it not such a big deal if it's two guys? Or do we just shrug it off as boys being boys? At any rate, as more gay celebrities live openly, domestic violence may start looking different.
I don't know, I'm scratching my head over this one. I think I would be more worried if one or the other turned up more injured. That the fight didn't result in a breakup seems to indicate that it was... well, maybe not a healthy fight but at least probably not abusive or toxic. But I also think we'd better keep an eye on these two -- Adam and Sauli, you just be nice to each other!
